Breaking: Sarah Huckabee Sanders Fires Off At Pelosi For Her Reaction to SOTU

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Wednesday said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi “should smile a lot more often” after her critical response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address.

During an appearance on CNN, Sanders was asked to reconcile the president’s rhetoric with the “grossly divided” reaction from officials in response to his Tuesday night address by anchor Chris Cuomo.

“I’ve never seen Nancy Pelosi’s face like that,” Cuomo said, remarking on the Democratic lawmaker’s apparent displeasure with Trump’s speech.

The White House press secretary offered up a different interpretation of the response.

“I’m going to be a little bit in disagreement with you. I think Nancy Pelosi looks like that all the time,” Sanders said. “I think she should smile a lot more often, I think the country would be better for it.”

Sanders added that Pelosi “seems to kind of embody the bitterness that belongs to the Democrat Party right now.”

Pelosi and other Democratic officials were highly-critical of Trump’s address, which rankled members of the party with jabs at the Affordable Care Act and “chain migration” and mentions of minority unemployment rates.

The House minority leader took to Twitter after the speech Tuesday to accuse Trump of “misleading people” on the state of the economy, of “leaving the middle class behind” and of “trying to sabotage the Affordable Care Act.”

Several conservative news outlets seized on Pelosi’s immediate reaction during Trump’s address, with the Washington Times awarding Pelosi a “Most Dour Face” award. The popular Drudge Report site posted an image of the lawmaker with the headline: “Pelosi Frowns at Call for Working Together.”

Pelosi drew attention earlier Tuesday for encouraging members of her caucus to not disrupt the president’s “slobbering self” at the State of the Union.

“Let the attention be on his slobbering self,” Pelosi said, according to two sources in the room. “If you want to walk out, don’t come in.”
